May We Never Lose Our Wonder
What is growth without worship? We were created to worship God, the Father of our Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ. To Worship God is to adore; to pay divine honors to; to reverence with supreme respect and adoration toward God.
Debunking the myth
First, I want to debunk the myth that worship only occurs at church on Sundays or at church-related events. That worship is only led by the praise and worship team. We don't have to have music to worship and reverence God. God is omnipresent – God is everywhere. We can worship Him at any time. Anywhere.
Why Worship?
We were created to worship God (Exodus 34:14). Worship opens the doors to all His goodness (Psalm 34:9). When we worship God, we experience His presence on an even greater level. Worship allows us to see the beauty of God and how He loves us.
A.W. Tozer said, “God desires to take us deeper into Himself. We will have much to learn in the school of the Spirit. He wants to lead us on in the love for Him who first loved us. He wants to cultivate within us the adoration and admiration of which He is worthy. He wants to reveal to each of us the blessed element of spiritual fascination in true worship. He wants to teach us the wonder of being filled with moral excitement in our worship, entranced with the knowledge of who God is. He wants us to be astonished at the inconceivable elevation and magnitude and splendor of Almighty God!”
God deserves our worship (1 Chronicles 16:23-31). He created us and breathed life into us. God gave His only Son that we may have an abundant life (John 10:10). We are no longer condemned. We are set free from the bondage of sin. How dare we forget to worship Him.
When I Worship…
I am in awe and amazement of who He is. At times I can’t speak a word but dance gracefully in His presence as if I am a ballerina. Sometimes, I sing songs of worship other times I cry out words of affirmation, glorifying His name. I don’t ask for anything. I honor God for who He is with reverential love, adoration, and appreciation.
In no time, I find myself undone, bowed down over a puddle of tears. Not sure how I transitioned there. I can’t explain it really, but worship brings me into His presence where time stops and joy, peace, and stillness abound. The only thing I can say is to try it. If you are a worshiper, you understand the ecstasy of love experienced and expressed in worship.
God truly is an awesome wonder. His beauty radiates like crystals in the sun, reflecting a prism of holiness and purity, even in darkness. After being in His presence, you will know without a doubt, He is the one true living God, and all the other gods are idols.
What Do I Need To Worship?
You don’t need anything to worship God. Maybe some Kleenex. No, seriously, there are no tools to worship God. Neither should our worship be focused on what we lack or what we want. Our worship should be about God and who He is.
The one thing we must do is worship Him in spirit and truth (John 4:24). To worship in spirit and truth, we must have authentic worship. To authentically worship God, we must know God. And the only way to know God is through His son, Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
If our hearts are cluttered with hate, pride, etc we can’t worship Him in spirit or truth. We need to have a pure heart and a postured attitude before the Lord of admiration, honor, love, and reverence flowing from the heart.
Our Life Is An Act of Worship
We worship through our lives consistently. It is our most reasonable act of worship (Romans 12:1-2). We do this by taking up our cross, denying ourselves, and following Jesus daily (Matthew 16:24-26). Not just abstinence and addictions to drugs, I mean gossip and cursing too (Colossians 3:5-10). Refusing to give in to the desires of the world (1 John 2:15-17).
We live a life of worship by walking in obedience to God and following His commands. We stand up and fight for justice, feed the hungry, care for the poor, orphans, and widows (Psalm 68:5; Amos 5:24; Matthew 25:35-40). Living a life of peace with one another, loving our neighbor, with compassion, and humility (Romans 12:16-21; Ephesians 4:2).
As you continue to grow in worship, you will be moved to live a life of worship.
For we have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer us who live, but Christ who lives in us. And the life we now live in the flesh, we live by faith in the Son of God, who loved us and gave himself for us (Galatians 2:20).
Moving Forward
As you continue to grow in your relationship with God, remember there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. We can do all things through Christ which gives us strength (Philippians 4:13). So if you forget to pray, journal, or worship. It’s okay God’s mercies are new every morning. Keep going and never stop growing.
