THE GOSPEL
The Gospel is also known as the Good News of Jesus Christ, who sacrificed His life for all humanity (1 John 2:2). Through the blood of Jesus, we receive redemption for our sins and reconciled back to God (Ephesians 1:7). Through faith in Jesus, we are healed, delivered, and set free from the bondage of sin, which separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2).
See, God is a Holy God. Before the foundation of the world, He had us (His creation) in mind. He chose us that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love (Ephesians 1:4). Unfortunately, the first humans God created (Adam and Eve) disobeyed God bringing sin into the world. Due to Adam and Eve's sin of disobedience, God removed them from the Garden of Eden - His presence (Genesis 3). As a result of their sin, humanity inherited Adam and Eve's sinful nature (Romans 5:19). Consequently, like Adam and Eve, our sinful nature prohibits us from entering the presence of God.
This sinful nature led to the worship of idols, sexual immorality, violence, corruption, etc. To bring about redemption, God issued the divine law. According to the law, sacrificial ceremonies were performed by priests annually to atone for the sins of the people (Hebrews 9:7). However, the law was insufficient in changing the hearts of the people toward God (Hebrews 10:11).
As the sin of disobedience and idol worship continued, God provided judges and kings to bring order. Still, humanity in their sinful nature would not turn their hearts back to God. Time after time God spoke through prophets warning the people of God to repent of their sins and turn to God. Unfortunately, they did not heed the warnings and suffered the consequences of their sins (Jeremiah 7:24; 31:30).
During the time of suffering, God remembered His covenant with the Israelites and did not put an end to them (Exodus 19:4-6; Nehemiah 9:31). God promised a Savior would come that would reconcile everyone, including you back to God. This Savior would establish a new covenant of grace, in which God would remember our sins no more. Allowing us to have an individual relationship with God for we would be His people, He would be our God (Hebrews 8:7-12).
But who would be the one to reconcile us? Because of our sinful nature, humans could not pay the price of sin. It had to be someone whose very essence was holy and perfect like God yet, human without sin. Who other than God's Son? “God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son, whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16-17).
We no longer need anyone to make sacrifices for us. Jesus Christ paid the ultimate sacrifice for our sins with His flesh and blood (Hebrews 9:12-15). No sin is too great or too small His blood cannot atone for.
After Jesus' death, on the third day, He rose from the dead and now sits at the right hand of God interceding for us. (Romans 8:34). Now we can boldly enter the presence of God.
When we confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts Jesus Christ is Lord, we are saved from God's wrath to come. Furthermore, we are made new (2 Corinthians 5:17) able to dwell with Him as His beloved sons and daughters for eternity (John 1:12-13; Galatians 3:29).
